Shrine Walk for Time Beings

(Formerly titled “Creek & Valley Shrines”)

QUEENS, NEW YORK – I lead a walk, commissioned by Elastic City, in which participants interacted with Flushing Meadows Corona Park’s natural and synthetic living systems.

Our walk was enriched by the park’s mythology as an ash dump and subsequently, the site of the World’s Fair. Visions of an imagined future stood side-by-side with historical relics, which we used to locate ourselves as Time Beings.

We used our bodies and found materials to construct personal and communal shrines as well as time capsules, functioning as focal points in the landscape. These enabled us to better see the landscape, and we furnished the landscape with eyes in order for it to better see us.

This walk was produced in collaboration with Residency Unlimited.
